Get Cultured!

About the Project

Pairs of students work on a cross-curricular project which blends culture and language. Not only does this assignment build skills related to language usage and composition, it introduces students to distance collaboration.

Lesson Overview

Pair up students from language arts and world language classes. Each pair is responsible for researching a specific person, place, country, or topic (cultural icon, form of government, literature, current event, historical topic, etc.), based on your curriculum.

Students share their ideas, work, research, and final product using Google Drive, including a written report on Google Docs. They share their work with the class through a two-minute talk using Google Presentation.

Tips and Suggestions

Walk students through the process of creating a folder in Google Drive and sharing it with their partner. Explain that part of this assignment’s purpose is to empower them to collaborate effectively from a distance.

Give older students the freedom to move beyond Google Presentation and try another tool, such as Prezi, Pear Deck, Nearpod, PowToon, etc.
