This is what you can expect on the Google Educator Exam!

The Google Certified Educator program is a wonderful way to increase your ability to use tools like Drive, Classroom, Forms, and Calendar in the context of the classroom. On this episode of the Chromebook Classroom Podcast, Lissa Brunan and I talk about the experience of taking the level 1 and level 2 certification exams.

If you are interested in becoming a Google Certified Educator, this episode is one you won’t want to miss!

From Middle School Teacher to Professor

Lissa BrunanLissa Brunan began her career as a middle school teacher with limited access to technology. What she didn’t know was that she was about to experience the classroom technology revolution of the mid 2000’s.

Lissa quickly realized the potential of technology as a teaching tool. That ultimately led her to get a masters degree in educational technology and become a technology trainer and coach for Grand Valley University, National Heritage Academy, and ultimately through her own company, Engaging TECHniques.

Lissa’s introduction into the world of Google started with an unfortunate incident involving a missing PowerPoint file…

Why should you become a Google Certified Educator?

Google Educator Level 1Google Educator Level 2Both Lissa and I are Google Certified Educators and Trainers. The certification programs created by Google have opened up new doors of opportunity for us both.

We want YOU to have the same experience!

I attended the Google Teacher Academy waaaaay back in 2009. It was an amazing experience. You can read my reflection in this blog post I wrote LONG time ago!

Lissa was introduced to Google Certifications when she attended the Google Certification Academy, a program that I developed back in 2014. She quickly earned her level 1, level 2, and certified trainer badges!

There are two reasons you should become a Google Certified Educator:

  1. To become a more proficient user of Google’s amazing classroom tools.
  2. To verify and document the awesome ways you are using technology in your classroom.

What’s on the level 1 and level 2 exam?

Lissa and I both took the level 1 and level 2 Google educator exam. Because we both organize certification bootcamps, we want to make sure that we understand the format and content of the exams so that we can help teachers be successful.Google Educator Exam

Listen to the full episode for tips on registering for your exam, suggestions on using two monitors, and the importance of watching your time.

While we can’t reveal the specific questions that we received, we thought it would be helpful to share a high-level overview of how many questions were asked on individual Google products.

As you can see, there is a wide variance between our two exams. You experience will be different as well!

What’s is the difference between the level 1 and level 2 Google educator exam?

Lissa and I discuss the differences between the level 1 and 2 Google educator exam. The level 1 test focuses on the core, basic features of the various G Suite apps while the level 2 exam goes under the surface to explore some of the more advanced and “hidden” features of G Suite for Education.

Here is a comparison of how many questions we received on each Google tool during the level 2 certification test.
