Workshop Agenda

Teach with Chrome begins promptly at 8:30 am and will conclude by 3:30 pm. The day is divided into four sessions with a break in between:

A Teacher's Guide to Chromebooks

You can’t use your classroom Chromebooks for learning until you know what they can do! During our morning session I will share my favorite Chromebook features, shortcuts, and settings. This isn’t just a basic overview of the Chrome browser - we’ll go deep into some of the neat “hidden” features of ChromeOS.

Essential Student Technology Skills

Are your students ready to learn with Chrome? During session 2 you will experience simple activities to insure that your students can navigate their Chromebooks effectively.

You will also receive a copy of my essential list of student technology skills and a quick overview of the Chromebook admin controls that your district can enable to insure that your Chromebooks are used for learning, not personal entertainment.

BONUS: Are you an early elementary teacher? During this session I will share my top tips for managing the login process and using Chromebooks with PK-3 students!

Apps, Extensions, and More

Chromebooks can do more than just browse the web! Unlock the power of Chrome by adding apps and extensions from the Chrome Webstore and Google Play!

Apps and extensions can help you teach more effectively AND provide fun learning opportunities for your students. You will receive a comprehensive list of my favorite apps and extensions divided by grade level and subject area.

BONUS: Are you a special education teacher? Do you have students in your classroom with IEPs? During this session I will share my favorite tools for helping students with special learning needs.

Teaching with Chromebooks

It's time to dig into instructional strategies. During this last session I will use Google Classroom to demonstrate four different ways you can teach with Chromebooks. For each strategy you’ll learn some essential principles and receive access to a collection of sample lessons with templates, examples, and teacher resources. There is something for every grade level and subject area!

BONUS: Ready to learn about Google Classroom? I will share my favorite Classroom features and give you a copy of my ultimate guide to Google Classroom!

Registration is open!

Instructor: John Sowash

John R. Sowash

Hi! I'm John! I taught middle school and high school science for 6 years and was a high school principal for 2 years outside of Detroit, Michigan. During my time as a teacher I integrated technology into my classroom whenever possible. Sometimes it was great, some times it was a total flop! I now support teachers who are working to use tech in their classrooms. I write books, produce a podcast, and share free resources on my blog and website.

I hope you will join me for this workshop. I look forward to working with you!

Kind words from past attendees

"I have taken other courses that were just too technical and moved way to fast. Your class was perfect. I am not a "newbie" OR a "techy" but somewhere in the middle hoping to learn more every day. Your class was perfect as it was challenging enough but not overwhelming. Thank you." - Mary Ann Keiser, East Hanover, NJ

"One of the most focused and practical courses I have ever done. Every aspect was expertly taught with amazing tips from someone who is clearly a very experienced educator." - Michael Drucker, London England

“John Sowash is a Chromebook Powerhouse! A few days with John in our building, and our teachers were on top of cool, engaging, and productive approaches to using Google and Chromebooks!” – Karl A. Hartman, Principal, Kingsley Area Middle School, Michigan

“Thank you SO much for coming to our school! I love the tips and ideas. I think that was the best professional development training I have ever attended.” – Michelle Ogaidi, Nevada City, CA

You Might Be Wondering...

Yes! This workshop qualifies for 5 hours of continuing education credit. You will receive a signed certificate of participation at the conclusion of the seminar. Check with your administrator to verify specific requirements for your school district.

I have never used a Chromebook before. Is this workshop for me?

Yes! I will share everything you need to know to use Chromebooks effectively in your classroom. Experience using the Chrome browser, Google Drive, and Google Classroom is helpful, but not required.

Can I pay by purchase order?

Sure! Click the register button above and find the PO option. Your school will receive an invoice for your course registration. A PO number is required before your registration can be confirmed.

Do you offer bulk registration? Yes! If you would like to register 3 or more teachers to attend this workshop please use our bulk registration form. Just click the register button above and select PO registration.

What should bring? To get the most value out of this hands-on workshop I recommend that you bring a fully charged Chromebook with you. Personal and district-provided Chromebooks are great!

Don’t have a Chromebook? No problem! Most of the tools and features that will be shared are available on a Mac or PC with the Chrome web browser.

Note: iPads and mobile phones are not recommended as they will not have the full range of features that are available on a laptop computer.

I use Google products every day in my classroom. Will I learn anything new?

I hope to accomplish two things through this workshop: help you discover new features and tools you can use in your classroom and showcase awesome lesson ideas. I am confident that I can deliver on both promises! Come armed with questions and an open mind and you’ll walk out with new ideas for your classroom!

Do you visit schools? Yes! Please contact John Sowash if you are interested in hosting this workshop at your school.
