How to find the top Chrome apps & Extensions for your Classroom

Google Chrome has its own “store” filled with helpful applications and extensions that make the Chrome web browser even more useful! The majority of these applications and extensions are free to use!

The Chrome webstore can be accessed at https://chrome.google.com/webstore‎.

Search for a specific product or browse the available categories.

Accessing the Web Store

On a Mac / PC: open a NEW, empty tab and look for the “Rainbow Waffle” in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Clicking this icon will display your Chrome Apps and allow you to access the Chrome Webstore (shopping bag)

On a Chromebook: Click the magnifying glass in the bottom left corner of your screen, select “Apps” and look for the Chrome Webstore icon (shopping bag).

Apps Vs. Extensions

Chrome Extensions: Extensions are utilities that add useful functionality to the browser and to the websites you visit. Some extensions silently enhance your browsing experience while others have specific applications.

Chrome Apps: Applications are programs that must be installed and run within the browser, performing a specific function. Some “applications” are little more than fancy links to a website. Others are sophisticated HTML5 programs that look and feel much like a desktop application.

Note: some of apps and extensions are “freemium,” meaning the full, unrestricted version requires payment. I only recommend freemium products if the free version of the product is still useful. If you find a tool useful, consider paying for it to get even more value from it and to show your support!
